Our History

 

Pray Oakland was birthed from a love and passion for Christ combined with a love and passion for Oakland.

 

After participating in corporate prayer movements in the 1990’s and 2000’s, we noticed that there was no longer a citywide corporate prayer move in Oakland. We knew of individual groups and churches separated, segregated and praying by themselves. We were aware of standalone prayer events that usually followed some tragedy or political unrest. However, there was no unified, sustained, citywide prayer going up for the city.

 

After several failed attempts to introduce Oakland based prayer to other established organizations, Pray Oakland was birthed in 2019. We brought together several churches and parachurch groups in small intimate settings to begin praying together. We were joined by prayer groups from Alameda that also had a heart for Oakland. Through the COVID pandemic we gathered online to continue sustained prayer for Oakland. Now we invite you to join us as we pray for Oakland.

 

We hope you notice that no individuals or churches were named in this history. That is because it has never been about an individual or church. We exist to facilitate Christ focused prayer for Oakland that is unified, sustained and city wide.
